The Institute for Brazil Europe – IBE, composed of Brazilian university partners and associates in Europe, emerged from a public call (Notice) of the European Commission for the creation of a European Studies Institute in Brazil. The main objective of the Institute is to promote the development of teaching and research in areas where the European experience can add value and contribute a significant contribution to meet the challenges of development in Brazil and improve policies and programs accordingly.

The concept of transdisciplinarity based and permeates all actions of the IBE. Breaking paradigms and search for topics that meet the academic and social aspirations of the countries involved are the great challenge of the Institute and the legacy he will leave to future generations of students and researchers.
 
Formed initially by eight Brazilian Universities (partner) and seven European Universities (attached), the Institute of European Studies Brazil – IBE had the accession of seven European universities and six Brazilian Universities (affiliates), now totaling 28 universities.
 
 
Goal
 
The overall goal is to help strengthen higher education in Brazil and to promote mutual understanding between the institutions and societies of Brazil and the European Union, through cooperative action involving structuring and operation activities, dialogue, academic, research and to the community.
 
The specific objective is to create a European Studies Institute in Brazil to promote the development of teaching and research in areas where the European experience can add value and contribute a significant contribution to meet the challenges of development in Brazil and improve policies and programs national correspondents.

In the current phase, the IBE has structured went into operation, provided in its general plan, and directs all his energies to the main focus, which is the creation of a PhD in European Studies in selected topics of broad areas of knowledge and defined in activities of dialogues held in Brazil and Europe.
 
The program aims to foster the development of research projects and the involvement of partners to generate knowledge in a collaborative, transdisciplinary for the benefit of the communities in which it operates and at the same time ensuring the sustainability of the Institute.
 
The PhD will be multi-institutional, with the use of tools for Distance Education – Distance Learning, integrating teachers, students and universities in Brazil and Europe.
 
The Institute also intends to offer a specialization course in 360 hours, with the following themes: Democracy and Public Management, Process Development of Public Policy, Evaluation, Innovation, Governance and Transparency. It will be held in partnership with the European affiliates and associates.
 
Conferences and Workshops
  
Workshops by area of ​​knowledge in Brazil and Europe in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
 
The 1st International Congress of the IBE was conducted in Goiânia-GO in November 2011 with the theme "Smart Cities, Towns Human" featuring Brazilian and European universities.
 
Over two Congresses are planned: in December 2012, in Belem, with the theme "Advancing the Inclusion" and at the end of 2013, in Florianópolis, SC.
